چکیده

Centralized online social networks --- e.g., Facebook, Twitter and TikTok help drive connection on the Internet, but have nigh unfettered access to monitor monetize personal data of their users. This centralization can especially undermine use internet by minority populations, who disproportionately bear costs institutional surveillance. We introduce a new class privacy-enhancing technology decentralized privacy overlays (DePOs) that helps cOSN users regain some control over allowing them selectively share secret content cOSNs through distribution networks. As first step, we present an implementation user evaluation Image DePO, proof-of-concept design probe allows upload photos Facebook Interplanetary File System peer-to-peer protocol. qualitatively evaluated DePO in controlled, test environment with 19 queer Black, Indigenous, (and) Person Color (BIPOC) participants. found while could address threats which our participants expressed concern, interpersonal were more salient concern decisions content. Accordingly, argue order see widespread use, DePOs must align protection against abstract consider when making specific sharing decisions.

A centralized privacy-preserving framework for online social networks

There are some critical privacy concerns in the current online social networks (OSNs). Users' information is disclosed to different entities that they were not supposed to access. Furthermore, the notion of friendship is inadequate in OSNs since the degree of social relationships between users dynamically changes over the time. Additionally, users may define similar privacy settings for their f...

A Privacy-Aware Framework for Decentralized Online Social Networks

Online social networks based on a single service provider suffer several drawbacks, first of all the privacy issues arising from the delegation of user data to a single entity. Distributed online social networks (DOSN) have been recently proposed as an alternative solution allowing users to keep control of their private data. However, the lack of a centralized entity introduces new problems, li...

Privacy-Preserving Link Prediction in Decentralized Online Social Networks

We consider the privacy-preserving link prediction problem in decentralized online social network (OSNs). We formulate the problem as a sparse logistic regression problem and solve it with a novel decentralized two-tier method using alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). This method enables end users to collaborate with their online service providers without jeopardizing their data...

Privacy-Preserving Data Allocation in Decentralized Online Social Networks

Distributed Online Social Networks (DOSNs) have been recently proposed as an alternative to centralized solutions to allow a major control of the users over their own data. Since there is no centralized service provider which decides the term of service, the DOSNs infrastructure exploits users’ devices to take on the online social network services. In this paper, we propose a data allocation st...

Decentralized Online Social Networks

Current Online social networks (OSN) are web services run on logically centralized infrastructure. Large OSN sites use content distribution networks and thus distribute some of the load by caching for performance reasons, nevertheless there is a central repository for user and application data. This centralized nature of OSNs has several drawbacks including scalability, privacy, dependence on a...
